Ex-Patriots Assistant Reportedly Will Follow Bill Belichick To UNC

Bill Belichick spent several seasons in the back half of his New England Patriots tenure coaching with his sons.

That will continue at North Carolina.

Steve Belichick will reportedly join his father at North Carolina as the program’s defensive coordinator next season, per CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz. The 37-year-old currently serves in the same role at the University of Washington. The Huskies have one more game this season in the Sun Bowl on Dec. 31 against the Louisville Cardinals.

Belichick’s son served on the defensive coaching staff with the Patriots from 2012 until Belichick’s final season in New England in 2023. Another son in Brian Belichick still coaches in New England under Jerod Mayo after joining the staff in 2016.

The now-college defensive coordinator previously co-led the defensive staff in New England alongside Mayo prior to their respective new roles in 2024.
