Match Preview: Raith Rovers vs Queen’s Park

0 4

Raith Rovers are the visitors to Hampden tonight for The Spiders final home match of 2024.

Callum Davidson’s side go into the game looking to bounce back from a disappointing defeat at New Douglas Park last Saturday where despite a late rally in the closing stages, they were ultimately unable to take anything from the match.

Ahead of the match the club media team spoke to Callum Davidson to get his thoughts.

Our Head Coach interview is brought to you in association with Impact Glasgow – impactglasgow.co.uk

Previewing the match Callum said: “This is one that we are all really looking forward to. Friday night football, at Hampden, under the lights and in front of the television cameras is always exciting. I’ve spoken before about enjoying these matches and this is certainly one that we are relishing.”

“We need to learn from last week and make sure we start the game better tonight. We don’t want to be giving ourselves a hill to climb at the end. I don’t think we did enough at the start of the game have won last Saturday. Yes, we gave ourselves an opportunity to take something from it with our performance in the final 20 minutes however that was too little too late.”

“We need to make sure that we start tonight’s game well, and ensure we don’t do anything that gives the opposition a lift. It’s vital that we defend well from the off and show that fighting spirit we know the squad has, for the full 90 minutes.”

“The first goal at this level is so important, the perfect example of that being the Airdrie game here a fortnight ago where we got it, before getting a second that really settled us. Defensively, all over the park, we need to be better and put the disappointment of last week behind us.”

“We’re in a good position in the league and we want to end 2024 on a high. It’s important that we remain focussed on where we want to get to, which ultimately and realistically from where we are just now, is in the play-off spots. To have a chance of achieving that we make sure that we work as hard as we can and that starts tonight at Hampden.”

The season so far
The Spiders go into this one on the back a 2-1 defeat away to Hamilton Accies last Saturday. Having gone a goal behind in the third minute, Queen’s drew level courtesy of a Zak Rudden penalty. The home side took the lead again courtesy of a Steven Bradley free kick from 25 yards which proved enough to separate the sides despite a late rally from the Spiders.

Neil Collins’ side were 2-0 winners at home to local rivals Dunfermline Athletic last Saturday. Dylan Easton put Rovers ahead just before the break before Cody David scored the second with little over 15 minutes remaining. The result means Raith go into this game sitting seventh in the table, seven points behind the Spiders in fifth, but with a game in hand.
