Sports briefs: San Marin grad Ingrassia wins JuCo football state title

Dominic Ingrassia won two state football titles with San Marin High and now he has a state championship with College of San Mateo after quarterbacking the Bulldogs to a 43-11 victory over Mt. San Antonio on Saturday.

Ingrassia was 10-for-23 passing for 80 yards, and rushed for two touchdowns in the Bulldogs’ victory. He earned offensive player of the game honors.

Ingrassia was called to action when the Bulldogs (12-1) lost two starting quarterbacks to injury early in the season and he helped engineered a 10-game win streak.

Ingrassia and San Marin were back-to-back state champions in 2021 and 2022 as they won the CIF Division 5-AA and 4-A titles.

Boys basketball

Redwood scored a 64-27 non-league win over Santa Rosa in the Giants’ home debut on Tuesday night. Redwood saw balanced scoring as Simon Leonard led the way with 14 points, followed by Harry White with 13, Brennan Woodley with 10 and Zach Dinowitz with seven.

Redwood is scheduled to face Campbell Hall on December 26 to open the Damien Tournament in Southern California.

Girls basketball

The Branson School’s Avery Myerberg has accepted an offer to play at Amherst College. Myerberg, an All-MCAL first team pick last season, has scored more than 1,000 points in her career with the Bulls and is coming off a career-high 36-point game on Saturday.

• Myerberg scored a team-high 20 points, including five 3-pointers, and grabbed nine rebounds, but Branson fell behind in the second half before falling to St. Mary’s, 53-41, on Tuesday night. Freshman Kate Spaulding posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while senior Paige Macy had nine points and nine rebounds. The Bulls (6-3) are scheduled to play rival Redwood on Saturday in a non-league matchup.

Girls soccer

Raya Leikin and Sadie Goodenough scored goals to lift Marin Academy to a 2-1 home win against Redwood on Tuesday. Leikin scored midway through the first half then Goodenough doubled the lead for MA (4-0-1) in first half stoppage time, following a pass from Reese Goodenough.

Sarah Farese got the Giants (4-1-1) on the board on the second half, powering home a header off a corner kick taken by Teagan McCormick.

  • Jaela Brown opened the scoring for San Rafael then added a pair of assists in a 4-0 victory against Bay School on Monday night. Brown’s goal was assisted by Rachel Iredale then Brown turned provider, setting up a pair of goals by Ryder Higgins Jones for a 3-0 lead. Iredale capped the scoring with a long free kick.

Boys soccer

Bode Dossey and Rodrigo Diaz scored goals to lift Branson to a 2-0 win against Marin Catholic (4-3-0) on Monday. Charley Lightfoot assisted both of the goals for Branson (2-2-2). Niccolo Farley had the shutout in goal.
