MLB Rumors: Red Sox Target Would Accept Trade To These Teams
If the Red Sox and the Cardinals arrange a trade centered around Nolan Arenado, the star third baseman reportedly would welcome a move to Boston.
With Garrett Crochet and Kyle Tucker with new teams, Arenado might be MLB’s best player currently available for trade. The Red Sox have been attached to the 10-time Gold Glove Award winner in rumors for weeks, as he could supply the right-handed bat Boston needs and help shore up the club’s defense.
An Arenado trade could be a tricky one, though, as the 33-year-old is owed $52 million over the next three seasons and he has a no-trade clause in his contract. The Red Sox, however, reportedly wouldn’t have to worry about the second obstacle.
“Worth noting: The Red Sox are one of six teams that Nolan Arenado told the Cardinals he would approve a trade to,” The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham wrote in a column published Monday. “The others are the Angels, Dodgers, Mets, Padres, and Phillies.”
Noticeably absent from that list is the Astros, who reportedly are interested in Arenado with Alex Bregman likely to leave Houston in free agency. It’s also unclear if some clubs reportedly approved by Arenado, like the Red Sox and the Mets, are prioritizing a potential Bregman signing.
Regardless, we should not be at all surprised if Arenado is playing somewhere other than St. Louis in 2025.
