Cambridge United Fans Verdict: Three Goals, Three Points

How the fans reacted to another comfortable win at the SCL Stadium.

I write these fans verdicts the day after said game. So as you may expect, my mind has moved on slightly from Tuesday’s match. As good as it was, and as comfortable as we made it look, there are bigger things - or a bigger thing to be specific - for us to focus on right now.

However, I’m going to try and do my best to lift the mood a little by reliving Tuesday’s win. Because, believe it or not, back then - yes, not even 48 hours ago - we were a much happier bunch.

Here’s how the fans reacted to the win...

Lewis Wing

It’s been suggested, and not outlandishly so, that if Selles does end up leaving (and I’ve just read a tweet from TalkSport’s Alex Crook stating that is looking more and more likely) then some key players will more than likely end up following him out the door.

If Lewis Wing ends up being one of the players you may as well just fold the club. We haven’t had a player produce the kind of moments he has on such a regular basis in donkeys years.

Two more Wing Specials were served up on Tuesday, with the latter being particularly spicy...

A comfortable win

What we needed after Sunday’s FA Cup tie, not just for the legs of the players but also the heart rates of the fans, was a nice, simple, easy win that didn’t take too much out of us. And that’s exactly what we got.

Cambridge look like they’re in a bit of trouble and struggled to lay a glove on us at all, but we did our job astutely in that second half - being clinical in front of goal and seeing out the rest of the game in a calm manner.

Home wins are becoming a regular occurrence, but they never lose their sweetness for the fans...

Selles’ departure

Even after all of that, you’re still thinking about the bad news aren’t you?

I genuinely feel like I’ve been punched in the gut. We really just can’t have nice things can we?

I could do an entire fans verdict piece on this news. It is the hammer blows of all hammer blows, and will undoubtedly be the final nail in the coffin for any optimism most of the fanbase had.

It’s not confirmed yet but the writing looks like it’s already on the wall, and the fans can’t do anything to scrub it off...

Conclusion

I’m not really sure how to sum my feelings or thoughts up right now. Tuesday’s win has paled into complete insignificance. I’m not sure what happens now, or where we go.

It’s anger, it’s sadness, it’s frustration, it’s dejection. It’s all the bad feelings rolled into one. It’s just a the twist of the knife when there was a tiny bit of hope that it would be pulled out and the wound healed.

Sell. This. God. Damned. Club.
