Spurs board are frustrated about Ange Postecoglou stories in the press
Journalist Tom Barclay has revealed whether Ange Postecoglou has the backing of the Spurs hierarchy and explains why a recent news story about the Australian has left the club frustrated.
Postecoglou has been under pressure at times
Whatever the case internally at Spurs, there is no doubt that Postecoglou‘s critics in the mainstream media and on social media have grown louder over recent weeks.
The 59-year-old has often had to swim against the tide from the second he walked through the door, given his unusual managerial journey. Many questioned from day one whether he had the tools to succeed at the highest level.
His doubters have become increasingly vocal over recent weeks in light of Tottenham’s inconsistency. Of course, a 4-0 win away to Man City does wonders in shutting those people up.
Tom Barclay reveals feeling insider Spurs about Postecoglou
Barclay has now explained that the decision-makers at Tottenham are firmly behind their head coach, insisting that we are ‘a long way away’ from his position ever being under threat.
The journalist explained that the club are frustrated that there have been news stories suggesting that Postecoglou has the backing of the board as they realise that even stories such as that generally indicate that a manager is under pressure.
When asked what the feeling at Spurs internally is about Postecoglou, Barclay told The Spurs Chat Podcast, “At this point, as far as I’m aware, they seem to be very much behind him.
“So much that there was a story a few weeks ago about how he had the confidence of the board and that kind of thing, and what I heard was that they were frustrated that was even a story because as soon as there are stories written in that way, that normally means that the manager is on shaky ground, even if they’re not. I think we’re a long way off from anything dramatic happening.”
Spurs will not abandon Ange Postecoglou project
It is worth keeping in mind how many hiccups Mikel Arteta and Jurgen Klopp had at Arsenal and Liverpool respectively before they turned those sides into forces.
Now that the club have backed Postecoglou by signing players who fit his system, it would make little sense to abandon the project at the first sign of trouble. The Australian will be given the rest of the season unless the team finds themselves well adrift of the top-six.
Spurs have shown they are capable of blowing away the best sides in the Premier League this season. All they have to do is translate that to game against smaller, low-block teams too.
