Juan Soto Rumors: Discouraging Update On Red Sox’s Standing In ‘Hierarchy’

Reports and rumors continue to swirl but one thing hasn’t changed when it comes to the pursuit of Juan Soto.

It’s not great news for the Boston Red Sox.

MLB Network’s Jon Morosi on Tuesday offered an update on the “hierarchy” of Soto suitors. Morosi, like others prior, believes the New York Mets and New York Yankees are well ahead of the Red Sox.

“When Soto makes his decision, there will be a domino effect about other teams that have made these big investments,” Morosi said on MLB Network’s “Hot Stove.” “Let’s say for example the Boston Red Sox, who are probably well after the Mets and Yankees in the hierarchy of teams with a chance to get him.

“If they don’t get Soto, the Red Sox could very easily pivot and sign a Corbin Burnes, maybe they pursue a Blake Snell, who also both happen to be represented by Scott Boras.”

The intel from Morosi surfaced a few days after he said he would be “surprised” if Soto lands in Boston.

Multiple reporters viewed the Yankees and Mets as the favorites to land Soto in recent weeks. Red Sox reporter Rob Bradford gave Boston a 20% chance to sign the 26-year-old outfielder.

Morosi reported five teams made offers to Soto with the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays joining the three aforementioned teams. The offers Soto received are not believed to be final offers, but the promptness has Morosi believing it’s possible Soto signs before Winter Meetings, which begin Dec. 9.

In regards to Burnes and Snell, Morosi isn’t the first one to link the Red Sox to those top-of-market pitchers.
