Bryan Gil has hit a new level away from Tottenham

Gil‘s talent has never been in question, but the winger was unable to get a run in the side at Tottenham, with Nuno Espirito Santo, Antonio Conte and Ange Postecoglou all overlooking him in favour of other options.

The 23-year-old had a point to prove to his parent club when he made a loan switch to Girona in the summer and he has done just that, having looked consistently threatening since the start of the season.

The on-loan Tottenham man’s displays have seen him get back into the Spain squad and he marked his return to the La Roja set-up with a goal last week as the European champions edged out Switzerland 3-2 in the Nations League.

Bryan Gil puts Espanyol to the sword

Gil was nearly unplayable in the first half against Espanyol as Girona emerged 4-1 winners, with the winger having a hand in three of those goals.

He opened the scoring for the home side in the fourth minute of the game with a well-directed striker into the far corner from the edge of the box.

He was the turned provider in the 16th minute, with his cross being tapped into an empty net by Bojan Miovski. It was the same pair that combined again in the 21st minute with another perfect Gil cross from the left dissecting the goalkeeper and defence, leaving Miovski to do the rest.

Contrasting fortunes for another Spurs loanee

Another on-loan Spurs man, Alejo Veliz, also featured in the game, leading the line for Espanyol, but he struggled to get into the contest, feeding off scraps for much of the encounter.

That has become the norm for the Argentine, with Espanyol struggling to create chances this season.

The 21-year-old striker only has a solitary goal to his name in 12 La Liga appearances, and he looks unlikely to add to that tally unless the newly promoted side change the way they play.
