Former Spurs scout reveals what he is hearing about Jack Grealish interest
Tottenham’s former scout Mick Brown has revealed what he has heard about Spurs’ rumoured interest in Jack Grealish and has offered his opinion on whether the Man City star would fit in well into Ange Postecoglou’s set-up.
Is Jack Grealish a realistic target for Spurs?
Some contradictory reports have emerged about Tottenham’s pursuit of Jack Grealish, with some outlets revealing that the transfer is very much on the cards while others have played down the possibility.
Spurs have already approached Grealish over a transfer to North London in the summer and Johan Lange is now in talks with the player’s agent about a January move.
However it last week that the Premier League champions are not actively looking to offload the 29-year-old and Grealish’s wage demands might also prove excessive for Tottenham.
Mick Brown’s revelation about Spurs’ Grealish pursuit
Brown has revealed that he has heard from his sources at Hotspur Way that the England international is very much on Spurs’ radar.
He insisted that Grealish could be the missing piece of the jigsaw for Tottenham, opining that Postecoglou does not have a player who possesses similar attributes.
When asked about Spurs’ rumoured pursuit of Grealish, Brown told Football Insider: “If City decide he doesn’t have a part to play there any more, he could leave. We know what Jack gives them playing in more of a supportive role, but they if they decide they could get some money back, that’s their decision to make.
“He’d definitely be an asset to Tottenham and he’s one of the players they’ve been tracking. He would help to stop this basketball thing where it’s going from one end of the pitch to the other. That’s one of their issues, they can score plenty but they concede too many as well.”
“But say they can give the ball to Jack, he can make sense of it. He drags the play forward and then he can win a free kick or slow things down a bit. That would make a huge difference in their favour.”
A January move for Grealish is unlikely
Brown is convinced that Tottenham will make a move for Grealish if City show any willingness to cash in on the player.
However, he believes the Premier League champions would want to keep the player at the Etihad Stadium at least until the end of the season.
The former Spurs scout added: “The manager is keen to add some more depth in wide areas too. So, from what I’ve heard, he’s one they’ll make a move for if he becomes available.
“It comes back to the player and to Man City, whether they decide he no longer has an important role to play at the club. But I think that decision won’t be made until probably the end of the season. They don’t want to sell him now, that’s for sure, with their recent injuries.”
