Heung-min Son’s Tottenham future stance revealed ahead of contract trigger

Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed what Heung-min Son wants to do after Tottenham look set to activate the one-year extension option in his contract rather than open discussions over a multi-year deal.

Tottenham’s surprising Son contract decision

Many within the club’s fanbase would have thought that Spurs would be keen to tie Heung-min Son down to a new long-term deal.

Son, who earns £190,000-a-week is one of Tottenham’s best players and the club captain, but he also boosts the club’s brand off the pitch, given his superstardom back in his native South Korea.

However, rather surprisingly, it has been widely reported over recent weeks that Tottenham have decided to activate the one-year extension in Son’s contract rather than offering him a long-term deal (GiveMeSport).

This decision has reportedly not gone down well with Heung-min Son and his camp, who were shocked by Tottenham’s U-turn as all parties seemed aligned during the initial contract discussions.

Heung-min Son’s stance over Spurs future revealed

Florian Plettenberg has now also taken to social media to back up what we have heard about Tottenham’s decision on Son’s contract.

He revealed that the Lilywhites will activate the one-year extension option, extending the forward’s current deal until the summer of 2026.

Interestingly, the German reporter suggested that the 32-year-old wants to continue his career at the North London club and has no intention of leaving.

Too much is being made of Tottenham’s Son decision

Tottenham might have just decided to activate the one-year extension in order to protect themselves and buy themselves more time to reach an agreement on a new long-term deal with their captain.

The club’s hierarchy would have likely communicated their decision to Son’s camp and one would expect the parties to re-open negotiations over a new multi-year contract before the end of this season.
