Heung-min Son needs eight more goals for South Korea record

South Korea continued their unbeaten record in World Cup qualifying with a 3-1 win over Kuwait on Thursday and are now flying at the top of their group.

Heung-min Son converted a penalty after 19 minutes in the game, to take his tally for his country to 50 goals, and he is now incredibly close to breaking a big record for South Korea.

As it stands Son is now just eight goals off the top goalscorer in South Korea’s history, Cha Bum-kun, who scored 58 goals in 136 appearances for his country.

Son has hit the half century in 130 caps, and should have no issue taking the record eventually. South Korea have five games lined up over the next year as part of their World Cup qualifying campaign, and it is not a stretch of the imagination to think the Tottenham Hotspur man could hit 58 goals in that time.

Heung-min Son climbing Tottenham Hotspur scoring charts

Not only is Son heading for the goalscoring record for his country, but he is also looking likely to rise up the list of Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time goalscorers, too.

The Spurs skipper has 165 goals for the club now, and sits in fifth place in the charts for the North Londoners.

Son has time on his side, too, and with Martin Chivers above him on 174 goals, it is quite possible that the 32-year-old can surpass the Tottenham legend this season.

Indeed, Son will be disappointed if he doesnt get there by the end of the campaign, and then, beyond that, he will be looking to break into the 200 club with the likes of Bobby Smith, Jimmy Greaves, and Harry Kane.
