Patrick McEleney Departs

Patrick McEleney has confirmed his departure from Derry City this morning; the 32-year old has been announced as a new signing by NIFL Premiership side, Ballymena United.

The former skipper becomes the third player to leave the club following Colm Whelan and Shane McEleney’s respective moves to Bohemians and Glentoran in the wake of last weekend’s cup final defeat.

An emotional McEleney contacted the club’s website this morning to acknowledge the end of his second spell at the Brandywell.

“I want to thank everyone – fans, players and club for everything. The good times won’t be forgotten and as a Derry City fan, I will be back to support the team.”

No doubt the Brandywell faithful would reciprocate those sentiments and wish Patrick the best of luck going forward.
