Rodrigo Bentancur could miss seven domestic matches

We are still waiting for official confirmation from the FA on the length of Rodrigo Bentancur‘s ban for his “aggravated breach” of their rules over his comments on Heung-min Son.

However, it has been widely reported over the last 24 hours by various sources that English football’s governing body is expected to hit the Uruguayan with a seven-match suspension (Paul O’Keefe).

If that does materialise, it would be a huge blow for Postecoglou, with Spurs having some season-defining matches coming up over the next month and a half.

Ange Postecoglou’s plan to cope without Bentancur

One would expect Yves Bissouma to get a sustained run in the side over the coming weeks, but Postecoglou reportedly has another trick up his sleeve.

The Times claim that the Tottenham head coach could hand Archie Gray a chance to impress in his natural number six role to help mitigate Bentancur’s absence across seven domestic matches.

The Leeds United academy graduate has been used across the backline in the Europa League and Carabao Cup so far this season, but the 18-year-old might finally be set to be given a go in the middle of the park, which is where he was particularly impressive at Elland Road last season.

Tottenham should be able to cope without Bentancur

There is no doubt that Bentancur is a huge loss for Postecoglou, particularly given that the midfielder has returned to his pre-ACL injury form over recent weeks.

However, Bissouma now has a big chance to step up and show that he can deliver consistently, while Gray also does not seem fazed by the big occasion.

With Bentancur’s ban not applicable to the Europa League, the Tottenham boss can still play the 27-year-old against Roma and Rangers.
