Heung-min Son insists Spurs are still on course to be ‘a really strong team’
Heung-min Son insists that Spurs have shown enough to suggest that they can evolve into a top team, but he confessed that the squad has to become mentally stronger to get results consistently.
Is the Tottenham project headed in the right direction?
Since the defeat to Ipswich Town, there has been a debate raging on social media over whether Spurs have made any progress under Ange Postecoglou.
While the underlying metrics suggest that the Lilywhites have improved considerably, the results show otherwise, with the club having lost five of their 11 Premier League matches so far this season.
Postecoglou knows that he has to turn the ship around fast, and he stated following Tottenham‘s defeat on Sunday that he believes he can help the players become more consistent (Football.London).
Heung-min Son calls for more Spurs discipline
Son has now admitted that he and his teammates have to show discipline and be mentally stronger when things are not going their way. The South Korean insisted the team is ready to work harder on those aspects once they return from the international break.
The Spurs captain told the club’s official website: “We have to believe even more, because I think we could be a really strong team.
“Everyone saw it, but those kind of games, you have to think about them mentally in a very strong way, Villa, you have to be strong, then you play Ipswich, everyone expects us to win this game but, in football, you never get a free win, you have to earn it, you have to work hard.
“We have to believe more, be more disciplined, that’s for sure. Everyone has to be more disciplined and follow the structure and the plan. This is the main part of our strength, and we can make it stronger when we come back from the international break.”
No need to overreact at Tottenham
While the frustrations of Tottenham fans are understandable, there has undoubtedly been an overreaction to the defeat against Ipswich.
We should not lose sight of the fact that we are sitting just three points off third place with the second-best goal difference in the league, while still going strong in both cup competitions.
There were always going to be a few bumps along the road and it is important that the players learn from their mistakes, which, based on Son’s words, they are determined to do.
