Bruins Recall Journeyman Defender After Hampus Lindholm Injury

0 21

The Bruins held off for as long as they could, but finally had to add a defenseman on Wednesday.

Andrew Peeke suffered an upper-body injury back on Nov. 6 against the Toronto Maple Leafs, which is said to be a “week-to-week” thing. Boston had the necessary depth to withstand that loss, but after watching Hampus Lindholm go down with a lower-body ailment in Tuesday’s comeback win over the St. Louis Blues, it needed to make a move.

Bruins general manager Don Sweeney announced on Wednesday that the team recalled defenseman Jordan Oesterle from AHL-Providence.

Oesterle, 32, has appeared in nine games with the Providence Bruins this season, recording three goals and five assists. The 6-foot, 190-pound blueliner has appeared in 371 career NHL games with the Calgary Flames, Detroit Red Wings, Arizona Coyotes (now Utah Hockey Club), Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers, tallying 19 goals and 67 assists.

The B’s will likely plug Oesterle into the lineup while figuring out how much — if any — time Lindholm will miss.
