Match Preview: Braintree Town (A)
Next up for AFC Fylde is a long trip down to Essex as Kevin Phillips’ side look for back-to-back wins against Braintree Town.
Goals from Tyler Roberts, Gavin Massey and Nick Haughton proved the difference on Saturday afternoon as Fylde took all three points in a 3-0 win over Gateshead.
And ahead of the long trip down south, the Coasters are travelling in search of another three points in a big clash down at the bottom end of the league table.
Braintree currently sit 20th in the National League, two places behind the Coasters, but the Iron did record an impressive 2-1 win over Eastleigh last time out.
Opposition Dugout: Angelo Harrop
Angelo Harrop was appointed as Braintree Town manager back in May 2022 and led the club to a National League South play-off place in his first season in charge.
After having led his previous side AFC Sudbury to a play off finish, he managed to take Braintree one step further in 2023/24, earning a fifth place finish in the National League South before beating Worthing 4-3 in the play off final to win promotion to the National League.
This season, despite being towards the wrong end of the National League table, his side have recorded some impressive wins against the likes of Eastleigh, Altrincham and FC Halifax Town.
One to watch: John Akinde
A strong centre forward with an abundance of football league experience, Akinde joined Braintee in the summer after leaving Colchester United.
After starting out as a professional at Ebbsfleet United in 2007, Akinde earned a move to Bristol City before having plenty of spells out on loan at the likes of Wycombe Wanderers, Brentford and Bristol Rovers.
In 2014, Akinde joined Barnet where he spent four years as a player, making over 150 appearances for the Bees.
He has since featured for Lincoln, Gillingham and later Colchester United before joining Braintree.
So far this season, Akinde has made 16 appearances in the National League.
