The charge against Rodrigo Bentancur

Two months ago, the FA charged Rodrigo Bentancur with an “aggravated breach” of its rules for the comments he made about Spurs teammate, Heung-min Son, back in the summer.

Bentancur had suggested in the interview in reference to the South Korean that he and his cousins “all look the same”, which he later apologised for, admitting that it was a “bad joke” (talkSPORT).

Although his apology was accepted by Son (ESPN) and the pair had put the incident behind them, the FA conducted their own analysis and decided to charge the Spurs star.

A seven-game domestic ban for Bentancur

The Uruguayan has had to wait nearly two months to see if the FA will uphold the charge and what kind of ban he will be hit with.

Spurs insider Paul O Keefe has now revealed that the verdict from English football’s governing body has arrived on the Tottenham midfielder.

The 27-year-old will now miss seven domestic matches, which means that he will be banned for the next seven Premier League and Carabao Cup games, but he can play in the Europa League.

This is a huge blow for Tottenham

This comes as a big blow for Ange Postecoglou, just as Bentancur was starting to rediscover the form he showed prior to his ACL injury.

The former Juventus man has been one of Spurs’ most consistent players of late and will be a big miss for the side as they aim to push themselves up the table.

Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr will have to step up in his absence and guide the club through a difficult run of fixtures.
