The most in-form player in the Premier League?

One can argue that no attacker in the Premier League is currently performing better than Brennan Johnson, with the wideman showing some career-best form over the last month.

Tottenham’s 4-1 win over West Ham on Saturday was the first in seven matches where the Wales international failed to find the back of the net, although he was still threatening throughout the 90 minutes.

Chris Hughton’s revelation about Brennan Johnson

Hughton, who coached Johnson at the City Ground, revealed that the youngster always stood out in finishing drills during training, often placing the ball right into the corner of the net. The former Spurs assistant coach also suggested that we have not even seen the best of the 23-year-old yet.

Hughton told talkSPORT(19/10, 8:12 am via TBR Football) about Johnson: “Regarding his finishing ability, there are two aspects of finishing – one in the clinical moments of the game, which is about pressure, but the other is seeing what you see on the training pitch.

“Whenever we had finishing sessions with the forward players, his percentage of good finishes, corner-type finishes was very good. You had an indication there that he could finish well.

“It’s just about those moments. And I think you are seeing now the qualities that he has got, always trying to make the box, but he is a player that can play through the middle as well, and I think there’s more to come from him as well.”

Ange Postecoglou’s praise for Johnson

Even though Johnson had failed to get on the scoresheet against the Hammers, Postecoglou insisted that it was the Wales international’s best performance in a Tottenham shirt.

The Australian praised the attacker for the work he put in and for his willingness to track back to help out Pedro Porro defensively.

Postecoglou said in his post-match press conference (via Football.London): “I mentioned it to the lads, I know Brennan Johnson didn’t score today but I thought that was his best performance for us with the amount of work he did to help out Pedro and help out the team in a defensive capacity and still be a threat going the other way.”
