Critics have already been silenced

When Tottenham paid a club-record £65m to sign Solanke from Bournemouth, a few eyebrows were raised, with many feeling that the Lilywhites had overpaid for the centre-forward.

However, even though he has only found the back of the net thrice in nine appearances across all competitions, the 26-year-old has already won over Spurs fans.

The centre-forward’s pressing, hold-up play, awareness and quick feet have made him the right foil for the likes of Heung-min Son, Dejan Kulusevski and Brennan Johnson to play off.

Glenn Hoddle’s Dominic Solanke message

Hoddle too has been pleased with the newcomer’s contributions so far and the former Spurs boss insisted that the striker will get plenty of goals in and around the six-yard box over the course of the season.

Speaking about Solanke following Tottenham’s win over West Ham, the Spurs legend told TNT Sports 1 (19/10/2024, 3:11 pm): “If he keeps persisting, he will pick up his six-yard box goals as well, and that’s what Spurs need.

“They need someone that can score their type of goals in the six-yard box, the gimmes if you like. And he has just got to believe that it will happen.

“And there is a goal in him as well. He can manufacture a goal himself, drop his shoulder. We will see them as well. I just think it is going to take a bit of time to see him at his very best in a Tottenham shirt.”

Solanke’s connection with Tottenham’s attackers

One can already see that Solanke starting to develop a good understanding with the likes of Son and Johnson. For the first time since Harry Kane’s departure, Son appears to have a focal point in attack who can bring him into the game.

The former Cherries star takes up intelligent positions, knowing when to drop deep, thus allowing Son to make those out-to-in runs between the full-back and the centre-back.
