Patriots Rumors: Alarming Update Regarding Drake Maye Injury

Not much was made of Drake Maye popping up on the New England Patriots injury report Wednesday with a knee injury since he was a full participant in practice.

But there’s now growing concern about Maye’s health due to a report from the Boston Globe’s Ben Volin.

Volin reported Wednesday night that Maye went for an MRI after practice. That suggests that either Maye’s ailment is more serious than previously expected or he compounded the injury during the practice session.

Maye absorbed a few big hits when he made his first career NFL start against the Houston Texans. He was sacked four times while the Texans recorded eight quarterback hits in total. The rookie signal-caller, who also ran five times for 38 yards in the loss, got up slow on a few occasions after getting knocked down by Houston’s defense.

The injury update from Volin will begin the uncertainty around Maye’s status for New England’s matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday in London. If Maye can’t go, it would be a blow to the Patriots, who had their largest scoring output of the season against the Texans, and they presumably would turn the offense back over to veteran Jacoby Brissett.

Eyes will now be peeled for the Patriots injury report Thursday to see if Mayes continues to practice. Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt could provide clarity before the injury report comes out as he’s set to speak with the media Thursday morning.
