Plenty of confusion at Man Utd after what £150k/wk star said as executives react - report

0 3

There was plenty of confusion at Manchester United following reports that Christian Eriksen had confirmed his departure from the club at the end of this season, according to the Daily Mail.

The Denmark international told Danish outlet Bold last week that there is yet to be a breakthrough over a potential contract extension ahead of his current one expiring at the end of 2024-25, and many reported it as a confirmation of an impending and certain departure in the summer.

However, while the reports left Man United confused, figures at the Old Trafford club are relaxed about the current situation and no decision has been made either way on Eriksen’s future.

Ajax are also said to be keen on signing the midfielder on a free at the end of the season, but his departure from the Theatre of Dreams next summer is far from guaranteed.

The 32-year-old has re-established himself in the starting line-up in recent weeks, and his form has given the Red Devils’ executives pause for thought.

He currently earns £150,000 per week and while he got just a goal and three assists in 28 games last term, his return of three goals and three assists in eight games this season has impressed Man United.

Eriksen also notched a goal and an assist for Denmark in their Nations League game against Switzerland last night, putting in an all-round top performance, and he could end up playing his way to a new deal.

Manager Erik ten Hag has relied heavily on the creativity of the former Tottenham Hotspur star recently, and the veteran midfielder is likely to keep getting the nod in the first-team if he keeps up performing at this rate.

Man United could look to hand him a 12-month extension in the coming weeks, and not many would be surprised if that happens as the player has rediscovered his form this term and could play a crucial role as the Red Devils look to impress across all competitions this term.
