NFL Rumors: Key New Detail About Jets’ Davante Adams Trade

The timeline of the Jets’ reported Davante Adams trade certainly was noteworthy.

Concerns in New York intensified Monday night when the Jets dropped a very winnable game against the rival Buffalo Bills. One of the final nails in New York’s coffin at MetLife Stadium was an interception thrown by Aaron Rodgers, who claimed Mike Williams ran the wrong route on the play. And less than 12 hours after Gang Green dropped to 2-4, Rodgers reportedly was reunited with Adams.

But according to FOX Sports’ Jordan Schultz, the Jets’ blockbuster deal for the star wide receiver was not an impulse move after desperation intensified within the organization.

“The #Jets and #Raiders were in ‘very deep’ discussions on this Davante Adams trade prior to the game last night, per sources,” Schultz posted to X on Tuesday morning. “It will be done and sealed later today once Adams passes a physical. But the Jets didn’t just pull the trigger this morning all of a sudden following the loss on Monday night. The salary was a big holdup, and the Raiders got what they wanted there in the wee hours.”

Schultz’s report might not have been for the sake of carrying the Jets’ water. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport broke the news of the Adams trade a little after 10 a.m. ET, and 17 minutes later, The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reported the veteran wideout was in New York’s facility. Thus, New York and Las Vegas appear to have made serious headway on a deal Monday evening.

Of course, it ultimately doesn’t matter how Adams was brought to the Meadowlands. The Jets have little margin for error as they try to keep their playoff hopes alive, and the organization will be looking for one of Rodgers’ all-time favorite targets to be a leader of a potential turnaround.
