Pedro Porro reveals what Postecoglou is making him work on in training

Pedro Porro has been one of Tottenham’s top performers over the last 12 months, but Postecoglou still wants him to work on one specific thing in training.

CaughtOffSide reported last week that Real Madrid are showing some interest in Tottenham’s Pedro Porro. Los Blancos would prefer a move for Alexander-Arnold, but see Porro as a potential back-up.

Porro himself reacted to these rumours this week, telling Relevo: “Of course, I’m proud with these links, it means I’m doing things well.

“If that happens one day, it happens. Now I’m fully focused on my club, Tottenham.”

What does Postecoglou want Porro to work on?

In Ange Postecoglou’s formation, Porro plays as more of an inverted fullback than a traditional right-back. At times, the Spaniard finds himself in a number 10 position as much as he does a flat back four.

However, it appears the Spurs boss still wants Porro and his fellow Tottenham defenders to work on their one-on-one defending. This shortcoming was particularly evident in the 3-2 defeat to Brighton last week.

When asked if he has improved since swapping Sporting Lisbon for Tottenham, Porro told MaisFutebol: “I would say yes, since I was at Sporting. I’m much better and that’s important.

“The Premier [League] is very one-on-one and I worked on that well. The coach we have [Postecoglou] works on that especially and, thanks to the work, I improved.”

Porro is more valuable than Romero

With both Porro and Cristian Romero being linked with potential moves away from Tottenham, it begs the question: who is more valuable?

Despite Romero being the club’s vice-captain, I would argue that a replacement for Porro would be far harder to find due to the unique nature of his role within Postecoglou’s system. If Real Madrid put a big-money bid down on the table for one of them, you would probably rather it be Romero at the moment.
