Jerod Mayo Disappointed In This Aspect of Drake Maye Promotion
The New England Patriots announced Wednesday that Drake Maye will be their starting quarterback moving forward.
We all knew on Tuesday, though.
Maye’s promotion to the starting role was reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport and NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero, which is something that admittedly left Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo feeling “a little” disappointed.
“A little bit,” Mayo said Wednesday, per team-provided transcript. “Any type of decision that’s a big decision, you want to let the team know first. But in saying that, look, these guys, they read everything, and you know, it’s fine.”
Mayo sure didn’t sound “fine” with the fact the conversation got leaked.
New England wasn’t able to call a full squad meeting before the news was leaked, but it was clarified by the team that both Jacoby Brissett and Maye were notified of the decision Monday — before it was revealed to the public. The Patriots might want to tighten things up, though, because someone clearly spilled the beans when they weren’t supposed to.
