Harry Redknapp claims one Spurs player is just not working under Postecoglou

While Tottenham Hotspur continue to entertain, particularly for the neutral, former manager Harry Redknapp has cited one player in particular as lacking the excitement needed to be part of the team.

Timo Werner isn’t working for Spurs

Spurs made a number of tantalising signings over the summer, with Dominic Solanke providing goals up front, Archie Gray a bright talent, and Wilson Odobert showing much promise before his injury.

However, the renewal of Timo Werner’s loan deal hardly got Tottenham fans off their seats, and the German winger is becoming a source of regular frustration for the Lilywhites of late.

With Heung-min Son out injured, it has been down to the experienced Werner to fill in on the wing, but spurned chances, miscontrolled balls, and misplaced passes are becoming far too common for the 28-year-old.

Harry Redknapp has had his say on Werner while praising Brennan Johnson, telling talkSPORT (07/10/24 at 8:15am): “He [Johnson] has done well, he came in for a little bit of stick recently. Since then, he has answered the critics with six consecutive goals. It’s been great for him. But I am not sure about the boy on the other side [Werner]. He doesn’t excite me, I must be truthful.”

Spurs are too open at the back

Redknapp also had words of warning for Tottenham, after seeing his former side get turned out against Brighton last weekend, throwing away a two-goal lead to lose 3-2.

He added: “If you go through that team, it’s such an open team. They are going to have days where you go, ‘Oh, how fantastic are they’, but they are going to have halves of games like Brighton where they can’t handle the pressure.”

Werner on his final chance

I know Ange Postecoglou has reiterated he will keep faith in Werner and that he is happy with the player’s work rate and attitude, but something has got to give. In the last couple of games alone, another player would have had three or four goals to his name with the opportunities Werner is wasting, and we cannot afford to let that continue.
