Picture: Fresh blow for United with another star injured for 'weeks', he won 100% aerials vs Aston Villa

0 1

Manchester United have had a frustrating start to the Premier League campaign and they have picked up only eight points from their opening seven games.

The club have also struggled in the Europa League with back-to-back draws against FC Twente and Porto.

The Red Devils recently confirmed that Alejandro Garnacho, Noussair Mazraoui and Kobbie Mainoo have withdrawn from international duty with injuries.

Harry Maguire has now confirmed that he will be on the sidelines for a ‘few weeks’ after suffering a possible calf injury against Aston Villa on Sunday.

“Frustrated to pick up an injury at the weekend. Will be a few weeks on the sideline for me but I’ll come back stronger,” he wrote on Instagram stories.

Maguire is no longer an assured starter for the Red Devils, but he has performed well whenever called upon by manager Erik ten Hag.

The 31-year-old came off the bench to score a crucial stoppage time equaliser against Porto when United were already down to 10 men.

The centre-back was rewarded with a starting role against Villa on the road. Maguire had a good opening half where he won 100 percent of his aerial duels.

However, he picked up an injury just before the break. He was spotted clutching to his calf while grimacing in pain and was replaced by Matthijs de Ligt after the interval.

With the struggles of De Ligt and Martinez this term, Maguire’s absence could be considered as a potential blow for United and Ten Hag whose position remains uncertain.

Judging by Maguire’s update, he looks poised to miss some games after the international break. Hopefully, he can make a swift recovery and return by the end of the month.
