Who is Lucas Bergvall? Tottenham’s teenage star’s salary, career stats, and position explained

0 0

Tottenham Hotspur have a number of exciting young talents in their ranks now, but Lucas Bergvall might just be the most impressive of them all. But who is the Swedish prodigy?

Spurs fans were made to wait for the arrival of Lucas Bergvall after the club signed him in the January transfer window and left him on loan in Sweden for six months.

He’s now a part of Ange Postecoglou‘s squad and, despite a slightly difficult start to his career with the Lilywhites, it’s clear Bergvall has a bright future ahead of him.

So, let’s get to know the teenager, from his past career to his market value, his international career, and his height and weight.

Where did Spurs sign Lucas Bergvall from?

Tottenham snapped up Bergvall from Swedish outfit Djurgardens IF. He came through the academy at Brommapojkarna before that.

Funnily enough, Brommapojkarna is the same club that Dejan Kulusevski started his own career at in Sweden.

Bergvall really caught the eye at Djurgardens, particularly in the most recent Swedish campaign, where he registered six goals and five assists.

Tottenham signed Bergvall for a reported fee of £8.5m on deadline day in January, with the youngster picking the Lilywhites over a move to Barcelona.

What kind of player is Lucas Bergvall?

Bergvall plays the number eight role, but also has the ability to push further up into a number ten role behind the attackers.

He’s got incredible ball control, skills, and agility, which make him really effective at dribbling through opponents and helping his team progress up the field. Bergvall also has a keen eye for a pass, and is able to break the lines quickly on the counter attack.

We haven’t seen it at Spurs yet, but Bergvall is also capable of popping up in the box to finish an attack with a neat finish, and he loves a long range shot from outside the box, too.

Lucas Bergvall’s salary and market value

Transfermarkt data suggests Bergvall’s market value is currently around £10m, though Spurs would value him far higher, given his strong potential.

Given Tottenham paid at least £8.5m for Bergvall, plus further add-ons taking the deal to closer to £15m, the Lilywhites would probably give the youngster a price tag of closer to £30m. He’s only 18-years-old, so has so much room to develop, and he’s on a big contract, too.

Speaking of, it is thought Bergvall currently earns £15,000 per week (or £780,000 per year), according to Spotrac information. That puts him on the lower end of the Tottenham wage bill.

His deal runs through to June 2029. Spurs were keen to lock Bergvall in for the long haul when they signed him.

A difficult start to life at Spurs

Not only did Bergvall have to wait six months to join Spurs officially, but he’s had to bide his time for first-team opportunities at the club, too.

Postecoglou has been patient and sparing with his young players so far in the 2024/25 campaign. Bergvall has made a number of appearances in the Premier League as a substitute, but it is in the cup competitions where he has been given more time.

Bergvall made his first start for the club in the Carabao Cup tie against Coventry City, and also started the Europa League opener against Qarabag. His involvement there was cut short due to Radu Dragusin’s early red card, which left Bergvall very upset and disappointed.

He was given another start in the second game, against Ferencvaros, but struggled to make things happen, often losing the ball and making poor decisions, most likely as a result of wanting to impress so badly after his frustrating outing in the competition the week before.

Lucas Bergvall’s international career

Bergvall will no doubt be a top player for Sweden in years to come, and he’s already made his senior debut. He has three caps to his name at the time of writing.

Given he has developed very quickly, Bergvall hardly had time to represent Sweden at the various youth levels and has been fast-tracked to the senior setup in 2024.

He made his debut as a substitute in a friendly against Estonia in January. He was then called up to the squad again for the September international break, getting minutes in the Nations League ties against Azerbaijan and, coincidentally, Estonia, again.

Lucas Bergval’s age, height, weight, and more

Lucas Bergvall was born in Stockholm, Sweden, on February 2, 2006.

He is 1.87m tall, but weighs just 74kg, giving him a very tall, lean, athletic build. He’s not the strongest player, but he is dynamic and agile.

Bergvall’s parents played a pivotal role in helping him choose to join Spurs, and they have moved to London with him. He is also in a relationship with Mackenzie Medlock. Sadly, Mackenzie had to disable comments on her Instagram earlier this year, after Barcelona fans trolled her due to Bergvall turning down the Catalan club.

You can find Lucas Bergvall on Instagram, where has over 400,000 followers. He does not have an official Twitter/X account, so beware of any profile claiming to be him, as there were fake accounts being used over the summer — Tottenham Hotspur helped to shut these imitation profiles down at the time.
