It has emerged that Aston Villa might struggle to hold onto one of their midfielders amid rumoured interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs explored moves for midfielders in summer

In the summer transfer window, it was widely reported that Tottenham explored moves for various energetic, homegrown number eights.

It was reported at the time by The Athletic that Spurs seriously considered moves for the likes of Jacob Ramsey and Conor Gallagher but chose against signing them, partly because of how much Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall had impressed.

It turns out that one of Tottenham’s targets could be back on the market in January.

Ramsey’s future uncertain

The Daily Mail have now revealed that Ramsey is still of interest to several clubs across the Premier League, including Spurs.

The report claims that both the Lilywhites and their North London rivals, Arsenal, failed with moves for the 23-year-old in the summer.

Villa reportedly made their minds up not to sell their academy graduate after solving their profit and sustainability issues in June, but it is asserted that they might now struggle to keep hold of the midfielder in 2025.

Fight on their hands

The outlet explains that Ramsey remains on the ‘long-term recruitment lists’ of several clubs around the Premier League.

It is pointed out that the Englishman’s current deal only runs until 2026 and this puts Villa in a tricky position as a number of clubs eye a move for the player in the coming windows.

The publication adds that if the midfielder does not sign a new contract, the Midlands side could be tempted into considering offers for him as they do not want to let him enter the final 12 months of his deal.
