Tottenham started four teenagers on Thursday

Spurs continued their fine run form of late against Ferencvaros on Thursday as goals from Pape Sarr and Brennan Johnson meant Tottenham’s win streak extended to five.

Many fans were excited about Postecoglou’s youthful line-up in Budapest with Mikey Moore, Will Lankshear, Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall all handed starts.

It was the first time Tottenham had fielded four teenagers in a major UEFA competition since 2009, when a 19-year-old Gareth Bale featured. (OptaJoe)

Postecoglou has laughed off Spurs’ new nickname

Following Tottenham’s victory, Ange Postecoglou was told of a potential new name for his young group of players as a journalist questioned:

“Ange, we’ve had the Busby Babes and the Fergie’s Fledglings – are those four teenagers Ange’s Angels?”

Postecoglou laughed off the suggestion, chuckling: “No, no, no… you’ve got to do better than that mate. No, no chance!” (HaytersTV)

Tottenham’s new generation

I’m sure as much as Ange Postecoglou shot down the idea of his youngsters being given a nickname, he would certainly welcome performances akin to ‘Fergie’s fledglings’.

Moore in particular shone on Thursday but Spurs appears to slowly be rediscovering their previous tendency to become a breeding ground for some of football’s most exciting youngsters. Take us back to the days of Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Kyle Walker, and Danny Rose.
