Why NFL Scout Would ‘Love’ Dynamic Colorado Star On Patriots

The New England Patriots desperately need a playmaker for the offense, and lucky for them, one of the most dynamic stars in college football will be available in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Even if you're not a big fan of Deion Sanders or think Shedeur Sanders is overrated, fans agree that Travis Hunter is a must-watch on television every Saturday. The Heisman Trophy candidate had 561 receiving yards and six touchdowns in five games, and he also had one forced fumble and two interceptions through Colorado's start this season.

Hunter's two-way ability will make him one of the most fascinating players during the 2025 NFL Draft process. The junior is elite at wide receiver and cornerback, but it's up in the air whether or not he can replicate his success at the next level.

ESPN's Jordan Reid and Matt Miller on Friday released their survey of NFL scouts who gave their thoughts on Hunter. They agreed that wide receiver was the 21-year-old's best position. And as for fit, New England was given the spotlight.

"I love him in New England," an NFC East area scout told ESPN. "Yes, they have issues to address up front for the young quarterback (Drake Maye), but I'm not taking any of these offensive tackles as high as they will be picking."

Reid noted he had Hunter, who the Patriots reportedly saw in person last month, as his top player in the draft class despite a cornerback never being picked first overall and Keyshawn Johnson being the last wide receiver picked first when the New York Jets took him in the 1996 NFL Draft.

It does show the choices the Patriots would have if they did get the top selection. Trading it is the logical move, and the offensive line seems to be the more pressing need. However, if Hunter can be just as big of a star in the NFL as he was in college, it might be tough to pass on the Colorado star.
