Postecoglou reveals what impresses him most about Archie Gray at Spurs

Tottenham made it through a tricky Europa League encounter tonight despite having a number of young players on the field, and Ange Postecoglou is particularly happy with the way one of his teenage talents handled themselves.

Archie Gray adds another position to his CV

Postecoglou made wholesale changes to his lineup for the trip to Hungary as his Spurs side took on Ferencvaros, with youngsters Archie Gray, Lucas Bergvall, Mikey Moore, and Will Lankshear given the go-ahead from the start.

Gray showed his versatility once more, operating at centre-back in the first half, before moving to left-back in the second.

Ferencvaros put immense pressure on Spurs throughout the game, but Postecoglou has expressed his satisfaction at what he saw overall, and had a special mention for Gray for the way he played different roles in the game.

He told Football.London: “I thought Archie Gray was brilliant today. We asked him to play two different positions and he just adapts and handles it.”

A mixed night for teenage talents

While Gray received praise, Lankshear put in a good showing, and Mikey Moore flourished on his first start for the club, it was a disappointing night for Bergvall, who struggled to get a hold of the game.

Discussing his young players and what his thinking is when it comes to managing their progress, Postecoglou added: “We’ve got to be careful with them but at the same time we’ve brought some really talented players to the club and my pitch to them was that we would develop them so I have to make sure I do that.”

A tough lesson

While the younger players here probably dreamed about getting this big chance and scoring a goal or being the star of the show, it simply wasn’t that kind of game, and they will all come away from this game with a valuable lesson learned.

At the end of the day, they all helped the team get the win, they got substantial minutes under their belt, and they’ll grow from the experience.
