Club are aware it would take ‘a colossal fee’ to sign Tottenham star

Real Madrid are aware that it will not be easy to get Cristian Romero out of Tottenham and are thus formulating alternative plans.

Romero a wanted man

Romero is now widely considered one of the best central defenders in world football, having played a key role in Argentina’s back-to-back Copa America wins and their World Cup win over recent years.

That 26-year-old is understandably attracting envious glances from across Europe, with a number of outlets over the last few months reporting that Real Madrid are keen on securing his services (Football Insider).

One would not expect Tottenham to let their key man leave without a fight if Los Blancos do come knocking for the centre-back.

Real Madrid’s Romero fear

HITC now say that while Madrid are admirers of the Tottenham man, as well as Arsenal’s William Saliba, they are aware that it would take ‘a colossal fee’ to sign either player.

As a result, Los Blancos are allegedly not willing to put all their eggs in the Romero basked for the time being.

Instead, it is asserted that Carlo Ancelotti’s men are looking at other central defenders in the Premier League, with Nottingham Forest’s Murillo and Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite now on their radar.

Romero remains vital to Spurs

Romero remains as important as ever to Tottenham, with the 26-year-old not only being the most experienced voice in the backline but also being one of the leaders of the side.

The Spurs vice-captain has just two years left on his current deal at the North London club and some reports have indicated the Lilywhites are even prepared to make him their highest earner in order to tie him down to a new deal (GiveMeSport).

Postecoglou certainly values Romero highly, telling Football.London last week that the former Juventus man is the kind of ‘winner’ that he wants in the Spurs dressing room.
