Argentina vs Colombia

While Argentina made light work of Chile in last week’s World Cup qualifier, they tasted defeat on Tuesday, with the Colombians emerging triumphant at home.

Yerson Mosquera gave the home side an early lead but that goal was cancelled out by Nicolas Gonzalez at the start of the second-half.

However, a controversial penalty was then awarded to the Colombians on the hour mark, with James Rodriguez stepping up to convert from the spot, thus giving his side all three points.

The protests from the Argentine players about the penalty continued after the break, with Romero even being booked for losing his temper, which means that the Tottenham man will be suspended for the World Cup qualifier against Venezuela next month (Clarin).

Romero praised for his work against Luis Diaz

Even though Lionel Scaloni’s men faced defeat, the Spurs centre-back was praised for his performance by the press back in his home country.

TyC Sports gave Romero a six out of ten for his display, saying: “The most solid defensively. When Luis Díaz faced him, he neutralised him without problems.

“As a curiosity, he went out alone to press in the middle of the field on a couple of occasions and he didn’t do badly, but he wasn’t accompanied by a block.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is funny that TyC Sport mentions Romero’s curious decision to press on his own, which he does from time to time. That proved costly against Newcastle just before the international break but the tactic generally pays off, forcing the opposition to play it back.
