Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish says that while he is glad to have hung on to Eberechi Eze, he is astounded by the lack of interest in the attacking midfielder.

Tottenham were linked with Eberechi Eze

Eze was mooted as one of the names at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist at the start of the summer window (GiveMeSport).

Several outlets even suggested that the Lilywhites had explored the possibility of activating the attacking midfielder’s release clause, which was thought to be worth £60m plus add-ons (The Times).

However, a move seemingly never came from the North London club for the England international, whose release clause eventually expired around two weeks before the transfer window closed (Fabrizio Romano).

Tottenham were not the only ones credited with an interest in Eze, with the likes of Liverpool and Man City also thought to have eyed the player (Miguel Delaney –Reading the Game newsletter – 23/8/).

However, in the end, the former QPR man did not come close to leaving Selhurst Park, much to the relief of Palace and Parish.

There wasn’t much serious interest in Eze

The Eagles chairman has now told Sky Sports about Eze: “I was really worried from a club point of view of losing Michael and Ebbs in the same window and we didn’t have in Ebbs the interest that I thought we would have

“I was astounded. Genuinely astounded. I mean, the guy’s just an outstanding footballer, an outstanding person.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I think Tottenham might have been tempted to make an offer for Eze if Bergvall had not impressed as much as he did during pre-season, with Ange seemingly feeling that the 18-yea-old (and Dejan Kulusevski) can push James Maddison for the number ten role.
