Journalist Sam Tighe is excited about Lucas Bergvall’s potential, likening the youngster to Barcelona and Netherlands midfielder, Frenkie de Jong.
Lucas Bergvall is making an impression at Spurs
While Bergvall arrived at Spurs with a big reputation from back home in Sweden, Tottenham fans would have been cautious about what to expect of the 18-year-old, given the big step up he was making.
However, from the second he set foot on the pitch in pre-season, the teenager has looked the part, appearing very comfortable alongside his new teammates.
The midfielder has not looked fazed in the cameos he has had in the three Premier League matches so far, excluding the confidence of someone who feels he belongs at this level.
In fact, some reports had even indicated that Ange Postecoglou had changed his mind about wanting to add a number eight to his squad because of how much Bergvall had impressed since arriving at the club (The Athletic).
Is Lucas Bergvall the next Frenkie de Jong?
Tighe has admitted that he is already a big fan of the Spurs newcomer, joking that he is ready to be the president of the youngster’s fan club.
The journalist said on the Transfer Talk podcast about the midfielder’s impact at N17: “I know he’s only played about 20 minutes of football, but I’m trying not to get excited here.
“But when he runs around the pitches and scampers across and picks the ball up and drops it off, he looks like Frenkie de Jong to me!
“I don’t know if it’s just that crop of blonde hair or what, but I’m pretty excited about Lucas Bergvall – I’m thinking about starting the fan club.”

Bergvall does not just appear to have all the raw talent but also comes across as a focused youngster who is determined to become the best player he can be, which is an outstanding combination.
However, it is still early days for the teenager, and it would be unfair to expect too much from him at this stage.
