Next ‘Match’ To Feature PGA Tour Vs. LIV With Four Massive Stars Involved

The golf world is finally getting an on-course showdown between the PGA Tour and LIV, involving four of the sport's biggest superstars.

Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler will square off against Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka, in a made-for-TV match this December, Golfweek's Eamon Lynch reported Wednesday.

It's unclear whether the match will be branded as the latest installment of "The Match," but according to Lynch, the event will air on TNT. The previous nine editions of "The Match" were broadcast on TNT. According to the report, this match will be played in mid-December in Las Vegas.

McIlroy confirmed the event in a text to Lynch, insisting "it's an event designed to energize the fans," adding the hope is simply to "put on a great show and contribute to a goodwill event that brings the best together again."

That last part -- about bringing the best together again -- is even more interesting based on the Tour declining comment about the event, according to Lynch. It has been over a year since the PGA Tour and Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund signed a framework agreement to end the standoff between the Tour and LIV.

There doesn't appear to be much progress in that regard, and some reporting has indicated talks are moving at a glacial pace, despite public comments from some elite players -- including McIlroy -- to bring the two sides back together for the best interest of the game.
