Dominic Solanke is waiting for his Spurs goal

Solanke has only played 90 minutes of football so far since Tottenham paid a club record £65m to sign him from Bournemouth in the summer.

The centre-forward looked extremely lively in his only outing against Leicester City, impressing with his hold-up play and his pressing while also making some probing runs.

However, he will be disappointed that he failed to get on the scoresheet, failing to beat the goalkeeper when he got a couple of big chances.

An ankle injury has seen the Englishman miss the games against Everton and Newcastle but he potentially has the opportunity to be a hero if he can announce himself to the home fans with a goal in the North London Derby after the international break.

Solanke needs a goal to settle his nerves

However, Wright fears that if the Spurs newcomer fails to score soon, the pressure of the big price tag will start weighing on his shoulders.

The former Arsenal man told the Premier League’s official channel: “I think he maybe should have scored two goals in that game (against Leicester). You are just hoping he doesn’t go through a phase where he isn’t scoring for a few games, then it will start getting into his head.

“You are hoping he isn’t rushing the chances. He is now in a position where he is a £65 million striker. In people’s eyes, he has arrived to be at that level, so just relax now. When the chance came, which they will do, then he will do.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It is a bit premature to worry about Solanke when he has played just one game.

However, Wright’s point about the pressure of the price tag is a fair one as people will start writing the 26-year-old off as a flop if he does not open his account soon, just like it happened with Richarlison.
