Vicario admits he apologised to Bergvall after being ‘too aggressive’ with Spurs starlet

Guglielmo Vicario admits that his emotions got the better of him during the dying stages of Tottenham’s clash against Leicester City and that he was too aggressive towards Lucas Bergvall.

Spurs will still be scratching their heads at how they did not emerge with three points from the King Power Stadium as the home side were utterly dominant for large parts of the game, with the Foxes struggling to even get a foothold.

However, in the end, the game finished 1-1, and it could have been worse if Vicario had not made a couple of late saves.

In one of those instances, the home side’s chance came after Bergvall quite inexplicably decided to dribble his way out of trouble in Tottenham’s own third, with the Spurs goalkeeper having to intervene to prevent the Foxes from taking the lead.

Vicario was not happy with the Swedish teenager, screaming at the youngster with a face like thunder after making the save.

Vicario said sorry to Bergvall after the game

The Tottenham number one has now confessed that he was a bit too hard on Bergvall and that he apologised to the youngster after the final whistle.

The goalkeeper told The Daily Star: “I was too aggressive with him. I apologised. Maybe at that moment, it was because we’d dominated a game for 70 minutes and then conceded.

“I had a feeling in the last five minutes we could lose the game. Maybe it’s to understand where the game’s leading us or not.

“But it was not the right way, screaming to him. But he understands. He’s a good guy. It’s part of football. We are men. I suffered this too when younger.”

“We are good friends and speak about sometimes having feelings of the game, the environment when you, maybe, play away games and everybody is more excited.

“It was the first game back in the Premier League, the fans were pushing us. My action at that moment was not the best but the message came from the right place.”

These sorts of things are common in football dressing rooms, and I am sure Bergvall would have understood the reason for Vicario’s fury and will learn from the mistake.
