Where will Tottenham finish this season?

Spurs fans would want to see an improvement on the club’s fifth-place finish last season and Postecoglou has certainly set the aims high, with the Tottenham boss talking about closing the gap to the best sides in the division and about going for silverware (Men in Blazers).

However, Lawrenson is of the opinion that the Lilywhites might have to be happy with just qualifying for Europe once again rather than looking towards the Champions League.

When asked to predict the result of the clash between Newcastle and Spurs, the pundit told Paddy Power: “A decent season for Tottenham would be a finish in the top six. Newcastle have wobbled a bit of late. They went down to 10 men against Southampton and could have easily lost against Bournemouth with that late disallowed goal.

“I’m going to go for Tottenham to win 2-1 and I would fancy Son Heung-min to score. I watched Spurs against Leicester, they should have been 4-0 up at half-time.”

Will Solanke and Son strike up a partnership?

Dominic Solanke will miss Tottenham’s trip to St James’ Park due to an injury and Lawrenson admitted that he still has his doubts about the club’s record signing.

The pundit questioned whether the 26-year-old is the kind of centre-forward who can bring the best out of Son Heung-min.

He added: “It was a little bit different for Son with the new guy Dominic Solanke through the middle and he kind of disappeared from view in that game. Last week he was back and he scored though.

“Son likes to play with a certain type of player but whether Solanke is that kind of player remains to be seen. Solanke has to prove to the Spurs faithful that he’s good enough for the job.

“He’s got injured straight away and he’s only ever had one season in the Premier League where he’s scored a decent amount of goals and he’s played a lot of games. It’s a ‘watch this space’ situation.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Ange would have ideally wanted one of Richarlison or Solanke to be fit to lead the line this afternoon as Son will not be able to make himself a nuisance and hold up the ball if Tottenham come under the cosh at any period.

However, we know that the South Korean can be deadly in front of goal if he gets any sniff, which is why Newcastle will be reluctant to push up and play a high line.
