Lo Celso set for Real Betis return

There is no doubt anymore, Giovani Lo Celso is on his way out of Tottenham. And, by all accounts, there is only one place he is going to end up: Real Betis.

The Argentine actually signed for Spurs from the Spanish side back in 2019, and the club have long been rumoured to be interested in bringing him back.

Now, the latest reports out of Spain all point to that finally happening. Marca (via SportWitness) state Lo Celso is seen as the primary target for Betis now that Nabil Fekir is being sold to Al-Jazira, thus clearing their wage bill rather substantially.

The outlet claims Betis are carrying out “double negotiatons” right now, with Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos also an option. At present, though, it is thought the La Liga outfit are really “pushing” for Lo Celso, while their initial offers for Ceballos have not convinced Madrid.

Meanwhile, AS suggest Lo Celso is a very “feasible” target for Real Betis, given his contract situation and the fact Spurs want to offload him, whereas Ceballos still has three years left on his deal with Real Madrid.

The same is claimed by Mucho Deporte, who outline Lo Celso as a “viable” option for Betis, and explain talks have already been held to get the deal done.

Speed bump as Tottenham refuse to accept terms

Fabrizio Romano has now provided an update on the talks between Spurs and Betis. The Lilywhites are apparently ‘not accepting the current conditions of the deal’.

Matteo Moretto has confirmed this, adding that Spurs are ‘getting tough’ in negotiations with the La Liga club, but the two parties remain in contact over a potential deal.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can’t see this going any other way than Lo Celso going back to Betis. The club are clearly desperate to sign him, and it all just feels like the right move for all parties.

I’m just curious how much money we can get for him. With his contract running out, I would expect no more than around £15m, and that’s being ambitious.
