What is Heung-min Son’s best position?

The debate of what Son’s best position is in Ange Postecoglou’s system is one that continues to rage on.

While the winger is a lot more involved in the game when he plays on the left, one would also want a finisher of the 32-year-old’s class to play as close to the goal as possible.

The Tottenham captain showed on Saturday just how deadly he can be upfront, opening his account for the season with a brace.

There is one more reason why Son is a huge asset for Tottenham upfront – the forward is the man you want leading the press.

Sonny is a pressing machine under Postecoglou

This is borne out by the stats, with Whoscored revealing that Son has won possession six times in the attacking third in the two matches this season, which is more than any other player across the whole division.

It was Son’s willingness to press that was the key to Tottenham’s second goal against Everton, with the Spurs star taking advantage of Jordan Pickford’s bad touch to pounce on the ball and tap it into the empty net.

Spurs Web Opinion

While Son’s pressing is an underrated part of the South Korean’s game, Tottenham would not be losing anything in that category if Solanke starts up front, with the Englishman having the highest number of pressures in the final third across the whole of the Premier League last season.
