‘I have no doubts’ – Player brushes off criticism one month after leaving Spurs

Troy Parrott has endured a testing start to his spell at AZ Alkmaar after joining from Tottenham last month, but the striker is confident that things will turn for him sooner rather than later.

Given Parrott’s impressive showing on loan at Excelsior Rotterdam last season, it did not come as a surprise when the 22-year-old attracted interest from Dutch clubs this summer.

It was Alkmaar who eventually won the race for the centre-forward, agreeing a deal worth £6.7m with Spurs for the player.

According to reports, Tottenham also included a 20 per cent sell-on clause for the Republic of Ireland international, thus ensuring that they would benefit from any future big-money move that the forward makes (Football London).

Parrott has not had the easiest of starts to his time at the Dutch club, having failed to find the back of the net in his first three Eredivisie games for his new side.

The former Tottenham man has thus come in for some criticism but he insisted that he pays no attention to what is being said about him, confidently asserting that goals will come for him.

When asked about the critics, Parrott told De Telegraaf: “That’s fine. People will always have their opinions ready. I just care about what my teammates and the trainer say to me.

“I’ll never talk myself down. That doesn’t help anyone. I always adopt a positive attitude. I have to get into a better scoring position. I also depend on my teammates for that.

“It is something we are working hard on with the team. No pressure, no panic. I have no doubts whatsoever: the goals will come.”

Given the goals and assists he got for a relegated side last season, Parrott should not have any issues scoring 15-20 goals at a side like Alkmaar, who are expected to be pushing for a top-three finish this season.
