European star with 11 major trophies would love to join Man United before Friday deadline - report

Chelsea attacker Raheem Sterling is open to joining Manchester United before the summer transfer window closes on Friday night should a move materialise, according to reliable journalist Ben Jacobs.

The England international is out of favour at the Stamford Bridge club, with new manager Enzo Maresca excluding him from the first-team training sessions and matchday squads.

As a result, Sterling is looking to leave, and while he has yet to talk to any club directly, joining the Red Devils is an option he is open to considering.

Man United snapped up the Netherlands international forward Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna earlier in the summer, and the Dutchman grabbed the winner on the opening day of the campaign against Fulham.

However, the Red Devils could do with an experienced forward in their attacking line-up, and Sterling fits the bill.

His salary is significantly north of £300,000 per week, but he could be open to taking a pay cut to get his desired move.

He brings quality to the table having notched 123 goals and 62 assists in 379 Premier League appearances and won 11 major trophies.

However, his past affiliations could see Man United fans frown against having Sterling play for their beloved club.

The versatile forward spent six years across the youth ranks and first-team of the Red Devils’ bitter rivals Liverpool, before moving to their city rivals Manchester City, where he spent seven seasons before joining Chelsea in the summer of 2022.

The Jamaican-born winger does not seem to mind, and it remains to be seen whether the Old Trafford club are keen on recruiting his services.

Chelsea are reportedly interested in swapping Sterling for Jadon Sancho, and while getting Man United to agree to such a deal could be tricky, it should not be completely ruled out as the transfer deadline day approaches.
