Journalist outlines Tottenham’s main focus in the final week of the transfer window

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth says Tottenham Hotspur will be concentrating on offloading their deadwood rather than bringing new faces through the door in the final week of the transfer window.

Tottenham have offloaded a lot of players

Coming into the window, Spurs had an extremely bloated squad and they had to undertake a mass clear-out, which they have successfully managed.

Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon, Japhet Tanganga, Joe Rodon, Tanguy Ndombele, Troy Parrott, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Bryan Gil, Emerson Royal and Oliver Skipp have all left the club.

Sheth revealed that the North London club’s focus over the coming days will be on finding new clubs for both Giovani Lo Celso and Sergio Reguilon.

Lo Celso and Reguilon expected to leave Spurs

The journalist told Last Word on Spurs: “The information I have got is that the focus predominantly now in the final days of this transfer window is on departures.

“They want to find permanent homes for the likes of Sergio Reguilon and Giovani Lo Celso given their contract situations. Particularly Reguilon, we know he’s in the final year of his contract.”

The Argentine midfielder and Spanish left-back did not feature for Ange Postecoglou during Tottenham’s pre-season tour, or the first two fixtures of the season.

While it is clear that Lo Celso and Reguilon will be out of the door by the end of the window, I also expect Tottenham to get at least one player through the door.

Whether that is a number eight or a backup defender remains to be seen.
