Is Heung-min Son a Tottenham legend?

Many Spurs fans will feel that Son has already done enough to warrant legendary status at the club, with the forward now into his tenth season at the club.

The 32-year-old is one of the most iconic Tottenham players of the Premier League era, having racked up a total of more than 400 appearances for the club and scoring 162 times.

However, the South Korean is not content with those numbers, expressing his intention to lift silverware with the Lilywhites.

When asked what legacy he would one day like to leave at the club, Son told BBC Sport: “Legendary. Being at one team for 10 years is a good effort I think. You have to be consistent with this and you also have to give something back to the club.

“I still don’t think I am a legend of this club. I have said I want to win something with Spurs, then I want to be very happy to be called a legend. I joined Spurs to win a trophy and I hope we can make a special season.”

Son wants to lift a trophy as Spurs captain

Son will need to be at his best this season if Tottenham are to have a shot at challenging the best sides in the division for major honours, and the forward has refused to put a limit on the kind of numbers he can deliver.

When asked what targets he is setting for himself this campaign, the Spurs star responded: “I am not setting a goal of where I should be. Imagine if I say 10 goals or something and you score 10 goals in six games, your goal is done.

“I want to push as much as I can, never feeling it is enough. I want to go as high as possible in every aspect – team, individual, everything. Then we will see where we are at.”

Son also opened up on the challenges of being captain of Tottenham, admitting that the experience has also helped him grow as an individual.

When asked what it has been like to wear the captain’s armband for the past year, he responded: “It has been good. I’ve learned a lot of things in the last year. Being a captain in a Premier League team takes a lot of responsibility. I am still learning.

“It is not easy but it is a good thing to do. It is very important. I am not the loudest guy in the team but if I have to be loud I am happy to do it. I just want to be a good example with good behaviour.

“We have such a young group of players and if the captain does the right thing then the players will do the same things. Off the pitch as well, I always try to be at a good level of what I am doing but the players are listening well so I am very grateful.”

Spurs Web Opinion

No player in the game deserves a trophy as much as Sonny does. The 32-year-old has shown tremendous loyalty to the club and it will be extremely heartwarming to see him hold up a piece of major silverware wearing the Lilywhite shirt.
