The former national team replacement players will remain on the active roster

Washington, D.C. (08/23/2024) – The Washington Spirit has extended the contracts of defender Jenna Butler and goalkeeper Kaylie Collins through the end of 2024, the club announced today. Both players originally signed as national team replacement (NTR) players ahead of the summer international window but will now remain on the active roster.

Butler is a DMV native, growing up in nearby Gainesville, Virginia. She attended North Carolina State University from 2018 to 2022 and played five seasons with the Wolfpack women’s soccer team. Starting all 86 matches she appeared in, Butler totaled seven goals and eight assists across 7,777 minutes of action as a defender. During the 2024 NWSL x LIGA MX Summer Cup, Butler started all three of the Spirit’s group stage matches, playing all 270 possible minutes for the club. In Washington’s friendly against Arsenal on August 18, Butler came on as a substitute late in the match.

Since joining the Spirit as a training player in late June, Collins has provided depth at the goalkeeper position in training sessions and will serve as the club’s third goalkeeper while second-year player Lyza Bosselmann recovers from injury. Since turning pro in 2021, Collins has played with the NWSL’s Orlando Pride and Seattle Reign FC as well as Australia’s Western Sydney Wanderers. She attended the University of Southern California from 2016 to 2021, appearing in 66 matches and recorded a 0.83 career goals against average with the Trojans. She is originally from Clayton, California.

The Spirit will return to regular season play this weekend, taking on second place Kansas City Current on Sunday at noon EDT. This match will be the first leg of a historic doubleheader at Audi Field featuring a friendly between Arsenal and Chelsea at 4 p.m. EDT. One ticket will grant fans access to both matches on Sunday. Tickets are available here.
