‘I’m really annoyed’ – Ex-Spurs player is not happy with Vicario shouting at Bergvall

Spurs goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario, was filmed berating Tottenham debutant, Lucas Bergvall, after the teenager handed Leicester a golden opportunity in Tottenham’s frustrating 1-1 draw.

Bergvall’s cameo was a silver lining for Spurs

Tottenham’s opening game excitement was stifled by Leicester on Monday evening after Jamie Vardy drew the Foxes level just before the hour mark despite Postecoglou’s side dominating the majority of the game.

Ange Postecoglou decided to only field one of Spurs’ four new signings on Monday in Dominic Solanke, with Tottenham fans having to wait until the 78th minute to get a glimpse of 18-year-old midfielder, Lucas Bergvall in competitive action.

The Swede shone, creating a chance, recording a 96% pass accuracy and completing two out of his three attempted dribbles in just over twelve minutes of football. (Fotmob)

Jamie O’Hara has criticised Vicario’s beratement of Bergvall

There was a moment of naivety in the young Swede’s performance, however, as Bergvall failed to clear the ball when deep in his own half, eventually handing Leicester a golden chance to score, much to the anger of Guglielmo Vicario who was seen berating the teenager.

Former Tottenham midfielder, Jamie O’Hara has criticised the Italian’s reaction, telling Grosvenor: “I’m really annoyed with Guglielmo Vicario, because of the way he dug Bergvall out when he gave the ball away and conceded that chance.

“Not one Spurs player was showing for it. The way he came out, all guns blazing, shouting at the young lad – that’s bang out of order!

“Vicario is meant to be a leader, but he wasn’t shouting at Romero when he left Jamie Vardy free in the six-yard box for a free header. I hated that as a player, and if it was me, I would’ve turned around to him and put him in his place.

“Bergvall is going to be a top player for Tottenham. Vicario needs to sort himself out and not do that again because that is poor leadership”.

Spurs Web opinion

It’s understandable both why Vicario reacted to Bergvall in the way he did and why Bergvall ended up making the mistake.

Bergvall is still only eighteen with just a season of experience in senior football, and even so, it has only been in the Swedish league, meaning that such mistakes as the one that Vicario took issue with are expected and part of the midfielder’s adjustment to the Premier League.

However, reactions like Vicario’s are less to embarrass Bergvall and more to convey to him how that he can’t act with such complacency and give the ball away so cheaply when playing in the Premier League.

On the whole, however, Bergvall’s cameo was extremely encouraging, as has his pre-season, and I would love to see Gray and Bergvall start in the midfield along with James Maddison against Everton.
