QPR Development Squad (0) – Coventry City U21 (6)

0 2

U21 Professional Development League 2

Team: Clark, Manufor, Leahy, McDowell, trialist, Hamid, Sutton, Morgan, Vaughan, Talla, Coomes.

Subs: Jones, Shann, Murphy, Friel, Aoraha

Timed at just 70 seconds, it was the Sky Blues who took the lead after the R’s defence had failed to clear their lines. Justin Obikwu was well-placed to drill the ball into the bottom corner.

At the other end, the Coventry defender slid forward to put Jake Coomes’ dangerous cross behind for a corner.

The Sky Blues doubled their lead on nine minutes following Jack Burroughs low cross from the right, where Aidan Dausch was on hand to pick his spot.

Kieran Morgan dribbled his way superbly past a couple of defenders, and his shot was deflected for a corner.

Jake Coomes was the victim of a heavy challenge, which left him in need of some attention. This break in play allowed the players to take a drinks break.

As the R’s looked to pull a goal back, Lorent Talla shot wide of the upright and after Rohan Vaughan had been set-up, the Rangers striker, turned and blasted the ball over the crossbar.

For the visitors, as Justin Obikwu broke away, the Coventry No.9 belted the ball into the side-netting. This was followed by a 25-yard strike hitting the post.

Then, Conor Clark made an excellent save when he tipped a long-strike over the crossbar.

Just before the break, Jake Leahy’s 20-yard shot was comfortably held by Luke Bell. At half-time it remained 0-2 to the Sky Blues.

A change of goalkeepers was made for the start of the second-half, which saw La’trell Jones replacing Conor Clark.

Evading challenges as he headed goalwards, Lorent Talla’s effort on 49 minutes narrowly evaded the target.

Mr Martland booked Callum Perry for a shirt pull on a Rangers player.

The Sky Blues added a fourth goal after the ball was parried to Kai Yearn and the No.8 had the easy task of planting it in an empty net. And the visitors went further ahead in the 59th minute.

Three changes were then made, which saw the introduction of Casey Shann, Harry Murphy (and the welcome return of Alex Aoraha), at the expense of Jake Leahy, Lorent Talla and Hassan Hamid respectively.

The Rangers captain, Jack McDowell was booked after committing a heavy challenge 20-odd yards out. Kai Yearn free kick was then placed into the top-left corner.

Alex Aoraha’s low shot forced a good diving save from Luke Bell.

Five became six in added time when Aidan Dausch turned, moved a few steps forward before smashing the ball into the net.

Earlier, Rocco Friel had replaced Sam Manufor.

Next up for the Development Squad is a trip to Crewe.
