Coasters announce Club & Team Captain ahead of 2024/25

0 2

Ahead of the 2024/25 Vanarama National League Season, Head Coach Chris Beech can confirm that Harry Davis will remain club captain, whilst Corey Whelan has been appointed team captain, leading the team out of a matchday.

The pair will work in unison to support the players and management to the best of their ability, creating a supporting link between the playing staff and management at AFC Fylde.

Harry Davis will represent the players and the changing room’s voice as a whole in assisting the management team, making sure we continue to grow our AFC Fylde culture both on and off the pitch, particularly with the younger players.

Following the respective appointments, Head Coach Chris Beech said: “Harry is an exceptional professional who carries himself brilliantly on and off the pitch. He’s a natural leader and played a key part in us maintaining our National League status from a point of no chance, to having a chance in 2023/24.

“It’s important to us that Harry represents us all with these values and ethics as our club captain.

“Corey is in the prime of his career regarding age and experience. He has captained Liverpool U21’s and League One side Carlisle United. He, like Harry, leads by example both on and off the pitch.

“It was important to me to try and have a captain more central and slightly higher up the pitch, especially with all the recent rule changes, enabling us to have a strong voice of reason in and around key decisions which our players can benefit from due to his influence and control of in-game incidents.”

Whelan joined the Coasters at the beginning of pre-season from Sky Bet League Two side Carlisle United.

Having played under Beech at the Cumbrians, the Head Coach knows exactly what to expect from the 26-year-old who committed his future by signing until 2026 at  Mill Farm.

Having joined from the EFL and having further experience playing abroad when featuring in America as well as representing his country at youth level, Whelan is well-stocked to take on the role and will look to help lead the Coasters to plenty of success in the future.

Everyone at AFC Fylde wishes both Harry Davis and Corey Whelan all the best in their respective roles ahead of the 2024/25 National League season.
