Trevor Story Presents ‘Good Shot’ At 2024 Red Sox Return

Trevor Story thought his season was over after a devastating shoulder injury on the season-opening road trip for the Boston Red Sox.

He had surgery shortly after with the belief that he would not take the field again until 2025. Instead, a small chance emerged recently that the Red Sox could get their intended shortstop back in the final stretch of this season.

Story shared that his swing feels good while he's been on the field throwing this week at Kauffman Stadium. As he progresses physically, he also emphasized the mental boost of at the very least having a chance to return.

"It's huge," Story told NESN's Tom Caron on Wednesday. "Truly, early on in my mind, it was done. To have this be a possibility like you said is huge thing for me mentally. I think we have a good shot at it. I feel really good about it."

Story's been around the team in recent weeks as a young Red Sox core established Boston as a real playoff contender in the American League. Story has playoff experience from 2018 and sees a fun team with October potential.

"It's fun, man," Story added. "I'm loving it. They're helping me more than they know. Just being around the team and being around this environment. You miss it. This is what we've dealt for so long in our life. Just watching this team, I think there's so many ways we can win a game. We can bang with the best of them. We can play small ball. Speed, defense, it's just a lot of ways to win. It's fun when it's that way."

Boston should not count on Story playing, but his potential return would be quite remarkable, particularly defensively, for the Red Sox.
